Different Elements of Business Cards

Typically, business cards bear the name of the individual, name of the business or organization, address, phone numbers, e-mail address, website address (if any), job title of an individual, logo of the company or organization, tagline or description of the business, graphic image and list of services and products. In other words, they are the mini resume of your company or organization. They reflect the image of any business.

The name of an individual or the name of the company or organization is the most important text element of a business card. Therefore, the names are always highlighted and kept in bold letters so that the recipient does not find it difficult to read the name on the card. The mailing address or correspondence addresses are typical parts of a business card. If the company does business online or through mail, then the need of any address might not be there.

E-mail address can also be included for web based business communication as it is one of the most preferred methods. In some cases, where the prospective clients feel hesitant in contacting directly through phone, e-mail can be a better option for communication. The spelling of an e-mail address should be absolutely correct on the business card. The phone numbers and fax numbers should have the area and country codes or extensions. Using hyphens, periods and spaces for separating the extension code numbers from the phone or fax numbers is generally preferred.

Web page addresses can be listed on the cards, if the company or organization has any website of their own. The website URL is an essential element for web-based business marketing and promotion. The products or services offered by any company or business can be displayed and marketed on the internet through a website. And, business card bearing the website URL actually promotes the business and its offerings. Many individuals including some entrepreneurs and some sole proprietors mention their job title like “President”, “Director”, “CEO” or any other job title that tells the recipients about their designation and position in the company.

A tagline or brief description might be used on the cards where the nature of business is somewhat ambiguous for the recipients to understand. Taglines printed on the cards can also convey massages regarding the benefits and features of the business. A logo is used to establish the identity of any company or organization. A logo on the business card would reflect the professional image of the company or any business. For many small companies who do not use corporate logos, may choose to use generic or custom illustrations and artworks that help in symbolizing the nature of their business. These graphics also make the cards look more attractive and appealing. Folded or two-sided business cards can be used for listing of products and services because they have more space for accommodating more information.

Many types of techniques are used for business card print designing like screen printing, offset( lithographic) printing, letter pressing, foil stamp printing, die cut technique printing, embossing and debossing technique printing, digital printing, varnish printing and thermographic printing.
