Printing on business articles and personalized stationery like business card, name card, letter head, brochure, note pads or envelopes is done on different types of paper qualities. The use of correct printing paper enhances the look and durability of stationery. The classification of paper is done on the basis of:
· Coated paper: Coated paper comes in matte, dull and glossy surfaces and creates sharp graphics on smooth surface. Different levels of coating applied on the paper divide them into light, medium and high coated paper categories. Art paper is also made from different coating application and is used in making high quality art books and brochures.
· Uncoated paper: Uncoated paper has no wax coating and is typically used for letter heads and photo copier. Surface sizing improves the strength of the uncoated paper which is used in low quality leaflets and brochure printing.
· Brightness: Paper quality varies depending upon the brightness levels measuring from 1 to 100. As the number of brightness increases, it becomes more reflecting and makes difficult to read. But, this type of bright paper is considered to be best for photo printing.
· Weight: Different thickness levels of paper also determine its usability and functionality. Weight of paper is measured in terms of thickness. The printing paper used for general printing purposes has a weight of 20 lbs, while the heaviest quality can be measured to 120 lbs.
· Opacity: Paper qualities in terms of opacity levels also determine its usability and functionality. Opacity is measured from 0 to 100 levels. Zero level meaning transparent, where as, 100 levels meaning completely opaque.
Some of the methods used in printing on fabrics are hand block printing, perrotine printing, engraved copperplate printing, roller (cylinder) printing, screen printing, digital printing and pad printing. In t shirt printing, where the fabric generally used is cotton knit, only screen and digital method of printing are used. Both printing methods have their own pros and cons. If big quantities of printed t- shirts are required, then it is most likely to go for screen printing. Where as, if some one is looking for customized smaller quantity, then digital printing should be preferred. Number of colors, price, order quantity and delivery time determine which method of printing would one be going for.
