Materials from which business cards are made

When it comes to giving the first introduction of your company or self to any person, it is the business card which is normally taken out and exchanged. It provides details like names of employee or organization, designation, contact details and even the main products or services that the company deals in. Professional business cards are designed in such a way that the brand image of the organization can be reflected through their design. These are made of varied materials. Some of these materials are:

1. Paper: This is the most common material used for making of these cards. Generally a thicker paper stock with glossy finish is used for the same. There are further variants in the paper itself which can be used as raw materials. For example, the use can be made of recycled paper stock to convey your concerns for the environmental degradation and to symbolise what your organization commitment to preventing the same. Similarly, the paper based card can be laminated with the very thin film of plastic to make it long lasting or these can even be coated with some powder to give it a particular finish.
2. Plastic: This is another commonly used material for making business cards. It could be transparent or opaque plastic on which the printing is to be done. The use of plastic makes sure that the card is not damaged due to water and other harmful agents and it does not wear and tear due to regular use. This is a less environmental friendly method of making business cards but is, nevertheless, extensively used.

Paper and plastic are used in making most of the business cards. But, there could be many other unusual materials which could be used in making of these cards. There unusual materials are more of innovation statements and the outcome of imagination of some person rather than being of much practical use. Some of these materials are

3. Wood: Naturally, business card made of wood would be thick and heavy and the details on this card would be engraved. This special type of card could be more in the nature of decorative item presented to the others, preferably someone special or of importance.
4. Metals: A business card made of metal is even heavier and is very durable to use. Instead of printing these with the usual card details, the alphabets are raised by embossing it.
5. Rubber and cork: The rubber and the cork material find innovative use in the making of business cards. The only drawback with rubber is that it needs to be protected from heat and with the cork one is that it is very fluffy.
6. Fabric: The fabric used in the making of these cards is normally attached or affixed with some sort of base material. The fabric might be either woven, embroidered or printed with the details of the business cards which are required to be made.

These unusual materials are not used in making business cards normally but these might be objects for showcasing creativity.
